À propos de cet audio

It was 1975 when Quinnipiac University launched its men's hockey program, and the players didn't even have their own ice rink for games. They played in Division III at a local high school. Fast-forward 48 years and they're D1 national champions, defeating powerhouse Minnesota just 10 seconds into overtime in April 2023. This podcast takes you on the team's journey from its humble beginnings, to the hiring of current coach Rand Pecknold in 1994, to the nail-biting championship game and into the future. The Tenth Second is the brainchild of Keith Woodward, who hosts and produced the podcast. Student Justin Moravsky handled the audio engineering and editing. Student Jillian Catalano is the social media coordinator, and David DesRoches mastered the audio and is the executive producer. • The Hockey Team's Humble Beginnings: No Bathroom, No AC, and a Chaw-Loving Athletic Director
    Sep 6 2023
Quinnipiac University started its men’s hockey program in 1975 and hired its current coach, Rand Pecknold, in 1994. In this episode, The Tenth Second host Keith Woodward talks with Rand, along with Billy Mecca, senior associate athletic director, and Bobby Lucarelli, the first captain under Rand’s leadership. They talk about Rand's interview process back in 1994, which happened during the summer, in an office with no AC, with Burt Khan, the athletic director, and Burt's dog, along with his spittoon -- the athletic director's, not the dog's. Quinnipiac was looking to find a coach to take over a team that won only 26 games in the previous five years, which is a nice way of saying that the team lost 82 games during that time.  All episodes begin with Quinnipiac Student Matt Mungo’s call on the Quinnipiac Bobcat Sports Network of the National Championship goal. • Quinnipiac Hockey Players Remember the Long Path to the Big Game
    Sep 6 2023
In this episode, host Keith Woodward talks with a bunch of players to get a sense of their work ethic and what it took to earn a spot on the Quinnipiac Men's Hockey team. Keith speaks with Jayden Lee, who was s named captain of the 2023-24 team; Anthony and Joey and Cippolone, brothers who started playing in their garage, which they scarred with their pucks and which their mom just fixed last year; CJ McGee, who was in Texas when Coach Pecknold called; and livari Rasanen, who came over from Finland and who had no idea where or what Quinnipiac was (Spoiler: He has a national championship, his brother who went to Boston College…. doesn’t); Noah Altman from California who was headed to Michigan – yup that Michigan – but as a regular student (no hockey); Christophe Fillion and Cristophe Tellier from just outside the Montreal area, came as a package (not officially), but they have been best friends since they were young kids. Timothy Heinke and Victor Czerneckianair are first-year students who live 10 minutes from each other, and played against each other one-on-one when they were 7 years old. Victor lost. You'll hear these stories and more, as we learn about what drew them to Quinnipiac. All episodes begin with Quinnipiac Student Matt Mungo’s call on the Quinnipiac Bobcat Sports Network of the National Championship goal. Thanks to QBSN for letting us use this audio.
