From a distance, everything looks great—life, liberty, and the pursuit of “I’m fine, really.”

But God doesn’t view us from a distance. He sees up close—into the messy, unfiltered cave we fear entering. That cave, says Joseph Campbell, holds the treasure we seek. Jesus didn’t avoid the cave. He marched right in—with a cross on His back—and came out with our freedom.

This week, we explore that hero’s journey. With help from Navy SEAL David Goggins (the guy who runs toward pain like it’s a fireworks sale), we discover that freedom lies not in escaping suffering—but in offering it up.

As for me? I’ve got my own cave, and I keep bumping into its walls. (Blind guy problems.) But even that has meaning—because the Light always shows up in the dark. True freedom is closer than it appears.
