    Notes on Poetic Language

    Scots-Gaelic

[Indigenous poetic language of the Scottish Highlands]

There are occasions when the listener will come across Scots Gaelic phrases - a poetic language. I do so to deepen the moment of imagery and reflection. To cause a pause in thought creates a moment with the Holy Trinity.

An Gèadh Fiadhaich: “The Wild Goose,” the poetic name for the Holy Spirit - untamed by humanity.

Anam-charaid (Anamchara - Irish): Soul friend.

Ìosa Crìost: the name of Jesus Christ I enjoy using. The phrase in English is known and commonly misused, but in Scots Gaelic people stop think and wonder, “Who is this?”. A moment of communing with Him afresh.

    Solas Chrìost: Christ’s Light

Sorchar nan Ruel: “Lightener of the Stars”, the poetic name of Jesus Christ.

Trasna: Trasna is the place of crossing over - like crossing over a stormy mountain range through an unstable pass. The Challenge of Trasna: Once we choose to cross over there is no turning back.
