  • The Final Blow: CTE and Murder
    Sep 9 2025

What happens when the hits don’t heal?

In this episode of Triggered, we uncover the dark side of sports and the devastating effects of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy)—a brain disease caused by repeated head trauma. CTE has been linked to memory loss, paranoia, aggression, and in some of the most chilling cases, murder.

We explore three infamous stories where CTE may have played a role in unthinkable violence:

    • Chris Benoit, the WWE superstar whose double murder-suicide shocked the wrestling world.
    • Phillip Adams, the former NFL player who killed six people in South Carolina before turning the gun on himself.
    • Aaron Hernandez, the Patriots tight end whose meteoric rise ended in paranoia, violence, and a prison cell.

Three men. Three crimes. One recurring connection.

⚠️ Listener discretion is advised: this episode includes discussions of murder, suicide, and domestic violence.
