  • #72 Cows, Colonization, And Comradery: Exploring The Beyond Human World With pattrice jones
    May 1 2024
How are cows, colonization, and comradery all connected? Tune in to today’s episode with pattrice jones, co-founder of a LGBTQ+ led refuge for farmed animals that works at the intersection of social and environmental justice, to find out. At any one moment they care for upwards of 500 residents, forming a multi-species community which has informed the way pattrice navigates, writes about, and changes the world. In this episode jones candidly shares the stories of residents who are brave escapees of animal agriculture and speaks to the ways in which homophobia and specisism intersect. pattrice also gives practical advice on finding balance in your activism in a world where so many issues deserve our attention at any one moment, and what to do when we make mistakes in social justice movements. “As activists and advocates for animals, we need to help break the backgrounding and stereotyping of nonhuman animals in part by drawing peoples attention to the diversity — the wondrous diversity — of nonhuman life.” Unruly Travel & Living Blog: wanderwoman.online

  • #71: From People Pleaser To Villain: The Recipe For Delicious Living With Kallie Klug
    Mar 22 2024
We’ve all heard the hero’s tale, but what about those in the shadows? Have you ever looked at a villain and thought that they looked divine, that their words or actions were delectable, or that they were living deliciously? In today’s episode Kallie Klug explains how we’ve gotten villains all wrong, and what we can learn from them when it comes to our own people pleasing tendencies. We ask questions like, ‘Why does being in our bodies matter?’ ‘How can I transform hurtful words that people assign to me and play with them instead?’ We discuss what glimmers are, how to stop giving your precious life energy away to randos at the park (LOL…no, seriously), practical grounding techniques in moments of fawning, and what we can learn from the infamous Cruella De Vil. • #68 Forget Black Friday, We Want A Green Future
    Nov 22 2023
In a time of so much material excesses, why do we feel so empty as a society? Why has it become so dang hard to simply take care of ourselves? And must one be wealthy to live sustainably? Welcome back Carly from Consciously Clueless to the podcast as she and Calen dissect these topics together. In the spirit of turning issue into action, they share epic ideas for alternative gift giving as the holidays move in upon us. They also share about their mental health journeys and what particular practices (such as therapy, mindfulness, and somatic movement) have helped them along the way. This episode was lovingly created for anyone who struggles around the holidays with mental health, wants to lessen their material overconsumption, or is ready to directly contribute to a greener future. “There is pressure on people during the holidays to spend money. Why spend it on shit that no one cares about? Shit that’s going to go to the landfill and go sit in the ground.” - Carly Jean Push Download the Upsdie gas app: https://upside.app.link/eby3Y929MEb | Code: 72UXEM Grab a copy of the Unruly Travel guide: https://wanderwoman.online/index.php/unrulystore/The-Art-of-Unruly-Travel-on-a-Budget-Printed-Copy-p390907964 Unruly Travel & Living Blog: wanderwoman.online

  • #67 Fashion, Leather, And Social Justice: What's Cactus Got To Do With It?
    Oct 26 2023
In today’s episode Jimena Suárez sits down with us to discuss the ‘pursuit of beauty’ and how that concept relates to fashion, leather, and social justice. Did you know that with just 3 mature cactus leaves you can create one linear meter of plant-based leather? Incredibly, cacti collect water from the air overnight and can be grown in their native space, organically, with no pesticides or herbicides. In addition to sharing epic facts, Jimena breaks down myths about leather production (like, “Isn’t it sustainable because it’s a byproduct of meat and dairy?”), speaks to what going vegan 14 years ago in Mexico was like, and shares her thoughts on superficiality, style, and sustainability. Sep 29 2023
In today’s episode we sit down with the mother and daughter duo who created the Trude Sojka museum in Quito, Ecuador. Trude Sojka was a Holocaust survivor and artist who painted until she was almost 100 years old. The house museum celebrates the life of Tude Sojka while educating and inspiring visitors from all over the world. Gabby says “We are nature” and shares with us how that sentiment, plus the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador, influenced her grandmother's art (as well as her own). She also lays out a timeline of Trude’s life, include the periods before and after the Holocaust. Through the preservation of hundreds of paintings, Anita explains how you can step back in time and see how Trude used her art to process her difficult experiences as well as her joyous ones.
