***During the sermon, the fire alarm sounded, and out of an abundance of caution the congregation exited the building. Thankfully, it was a false alarm and there was no danger. We apologize that we were unable to finish the sermon and appreciate your understanding. ***

In Philippians 4:14–23, Paul teaches that lasting joy is maximized when believers align their lives with the priorities of the gospel. Joy grows as we share in the work of the gospel, partnering faithfully from the beginning as the Philippians did in supporting Paul’s ministry (vv. 14–16). It deepens when our hearts are motivated by the growth of others rather than personal gain, seeking fruit that increases to their account (v. 17). True joy is sustained when we trust God as the ultimate source of our needs, offering our lives as pleasing sacrifices and recognizing that God often answers our prayers by changing us to become part of the answer (vv. 18–20). Finally, joy is strengthened when we remember we are not alone—we belong to a grace-filled community grounded in the self-giving love of Christ demonstrated on the cross. As Philippians begins and ends with grace, so the Christian life is framed by God’s gracious presence, empowering joyful generosity, faithful partnership, and enduring hope.

    Sunday Morning | December 7, 2025 | John C. Majors | Louisville, KY

On Sunday, Pastor John continued our journey through Philippians by showing how Paul invites believers into a resilient or even “anti-fragile” life—one that grows stronger in the face of pressure instead of being crushed by it. Building on Paul’s earlier teaching about handling anxiety and guarding our thoughts, he pointed to three practices that shape this kind of resilience. First, Paul celebrates the Philippians’ renewed concern for him, reminding us that generosity forms a heart that looks outward rather than inward. Second, Paul testifies that he has learned contentment in every circumstance, calling us to reject the constant chase for “more” and rest in the sufficiency of Christ rather than our possessions or comfort. Finally, Pastor John emphasized that true strength isn’t found in self-reliance but Christ-reliance, as Paul proclaims, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”—not as a slogan for personal achievement, but a declaration that Christ Himself is our endurance, our provision, and our life.

  • Philippians 4:8-9 | Filtering Our Thoughts and Practices through God’s Word
    Dec 2 2025

    Sunday Morning | November 30, 2025 | Colby Flowers | Louisville, KY

Student Pastor Colby Flowers encourages us to intentionally filter our thoughts, actions, and daily practices through the lens of God’s Word, drawing insight from the Apostle Paul’s teaching in Philippians 4:8-9. He reminds us that what we dwell on shapes who we become, urging us to focus on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. By aligning our minds and habits with these virtues, we not only cultivate spiritual maturity but also experience the practical power of living a Christ-centered life. Pastor Colby emphasizes that this intentional focus is not passive; it requires conscious effort to apply God’s truth, which in turn equips us to model Christ in our relationships, decisions, and everyday moments.

    Sunday Morning | November 23, 2025 | John C. Majors | Louisville, KY

In his sermon from Philippians 4:6-7, Pastor John reminded the congregation that God provides a clear antidote to anxiety, even amid the many worries that can weigh on our hearts. He outlined three responses to anxiety: first, the command to stop letting fear and worry control us, trusting God instead, as Jesus taught in Matthew 6:25-34 and Paul affirmed in 2 Corinthians 10:5. Second, the commission to bring everything to God in prayer, emphasizing four key aspects: prayer itself, petitions for our needs, thanksgiving that counters ingratitude, and living in the present moment with God’s help, drawing encouragement from 1 Peter 5:6, Romans 1:21-23, Mark 10:51, and James 4:2. Finally, the commitment to receive God’s peace—a peace that surpasses understanding and guards our hearts and minds, grounded in the power, promises, and presence of God as described in Ephesians 3:20, Romans 16:20, James 1:8, and Philippians 4:7. This message reminds believers that anxiety is not the end of the story; surrendering to God through prayer and trust opens the door to a supernatural, sustaining peace.

    Sunday Morning | November 16, 2025 | John C. Majors | Louisville, KY

In Philippians 4:2–5, Pastor John reminded us that one of the greatest threats to the unity of the church is not outside opposition but the internal division that can grow quietly among believers. Paul urges the church to stand firm in the truth by taking intentional steps toward reconciliation—just as he called Euodia and Syntyche to live up to their true identity in Christ by addressing their conflict directly and specifically. We are also called to avoid navigating conflict alone, leaning into the help of faithful “yoke-fellows” and the empowering presence of the Spirit who dwells in us. In every relational struggle, we fight division by choosing joy as an act of faith and by keeping an eternal perspective, displaying a spirit of graciousness, gentleness, and patient consideration that reflects Christ to the world.

In Sunday’s message, “Stay the Course” from Philippians 3:17–4:1, Pastor John challenged believers to live with unwavering focus on the gospel. He reminded us to follow faithful examples of Christlike living and to keep our eyes fixed on those walking in truth. We were urged to stay alert to deception, as Paul warned of enemies of the cross whose lives are driven by selfish appetites and worldly pursuits. Instead, we must remember our true identity as citizens of heaven, living in contrast to a culture that glories in shame. Ultimately, Pastor John encouraged us to stand firm in the truth, holding fast to our Savior and the hope of His coming as we stay the course in our walk with Christ.

In Sunday’s message, “The Power of Focus” from Philippians 3:12–16, Pastor John reminded us that living a Gospel-focused life means fixing our hearts and minds on what truly matters—knowing Christ and pursuing His call above all else. Paul’s example teaches us to press on, not because we’ve already arrived, but because Christ has made us His own. Pastor John encouraged us to let go of the past, stay teachable, and keep our eyes on the goal of becoming more like Jesus. Our faith journey isn’t about perfection, but persistence—pressing forward with focus, gratitude, and confidence in the One who called us.

    Sunday Morning | October 26, 2025 | Colby Flowers | Louisville, KY

Colby Flowers continues the Philippians series in chapter 3:1-11, "The Worthless Resume of Works."

In Philippians 3:1–11, Paul urges believers to find their joy and confidence not in religious achievements or outward works, but in Christ alone. He warns against those who rely on human effort for righteousness and contrasts that with the true faith that comes through knowing Christ personally. Paul, once proud of his heritage and accomplishments, now counts them all as worthless compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus. His deepest desire is to gain Christ, to be clothed in His righteousness, to experience the power of His resurrection, and even to share in His sufferings—so that, in the end, he may fully share in the life that Christ gives.
