À propos de cet audio
- Incident: On April 2, 2025, during a track meet, a verbal dispute occurred between Anthony (a student at Centennial High School) and Metcalf (a student at Memorial High School). According to witness statements and an arrest affidavit, Metcalf touched or grabbed Anthony after Anthony warned him not to, and the encounter escalated. Anthony then pulled out a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the chest. Metcalf died from his injuries.
- Arrest and Statements: Anthony remained at the scene, complied with law enforcement, and was taken into custody. While in the police car, he stated, "I was protecting myself," and asked an officer if Metcalf was going to be okay.
- Legal Proceedings:
- Anthony was initially held on a $1 million bond.
- A Collin County judge later reduced the bond to $250,000, citing Anthony's lack of prior criminal history. He posted bond and was released to house arrest with an ankle monitor, with strict conditions on leaving his home.
- In June 2025, a grand jury indicted Anthony on a first-degree murder charge. The indictment means the grand jury found enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
- Due to his age at the time of the crime (17), Anthony is not eligible for the death penalty or life without parole under Texas law.
- A gag order was issued by the judge in July 2025, prohibiting individuals involved in the case (including families, attorneys, and witnesses) from speaking publicly about it to prevent pre-trial publicity from affecting the fairness of the trial.
- Defense and Trial: Anthony's defense team plans to argue self-defense. His trial is scheduled to begin on June 1, 2026.
- Public Response: The case has generated significant national attention, public debate, and misinformation online, leading to threats against both families and the judge who reduced the bond.
