À propos de cet audio

What is Writeopolis? Writeopolis is a fortnightly (or, for US listeners, twice a month) conversation between writing professionals (and Kit Power). The conversation happens live every other Sunday evening via Discord, with live text chat accompanying the voice discussion (no video; RJ and Kit don't have that kind of time to sort their hair out every weekend). The resultant conversation is later released in podcast form via this feed. Who is Writeopolis? Writeopolis is BFS Award winner RJ Barker, author and playwright Scott K Andrews, and BFA finalist author, blogger, podcaster and procrastinator (and the one who does all the work) Kit Power, in conversation every fortnight with professionals from across the writing industry. The aim is to recreate the conversational vibe of chatting at the bar of a really good con with the guest of honour. Without the stale chips and having to yell to be heard. Though if you want stale chips, that's fine, we guess. But they are not provided. When and where is Writeopolis? Every other Sunday - 8:30pm to 9:30(ish)pm on Discord - https://discord.gg/SxBWXrbnWp , with recordings appearing here the following Friday for Patreon backers - https://www.patreon.com/writeopolispodcast , and FREE the Friday afterwards for all. We're incredibly grateful for your financial support, but we will never charge for access to the Writeopolis live show or podcast. Why is Writeopolis? Because writing is a lonely profession, and cons didn't come around often enough even before Covid. Because the best bit of any con is the chat you have at the bar on the Sunday evening. Because we're passionate about every single aspect of writing, and we love to talk about it with fellow misfits.2021 Art

  • Writeopolis S9 E2 - David Wragg
    Nov 18 2025

Writeopolis Season 9 continues with the brilliant David Wragg!

The chaos begins early in this one and soon descends into:

    • The ghost of the clicky pen haunting Kit

    • Everyone gets very confused about who everyone is

    • A philosophical discussion about crossbows appears

    • Dave discusses his latest release and compares it to the Fast and The Furious. In terms of physics. Obviously.

    • Conspiracy theories around Catcher in the Rye run deep

    • RJ justifies everything ever as a research expense

    • Dave gets called out on his crimes against bears (in his books)

    • and the ever inevitable, Cat Talk!

Listen in for all this and so much more nonsense!

Unfortunately, due to issues with the British transport network, episode 3 had to be postponed, but the episode 4 recording will be up soon enough

  • Writeopolis S9 E1 - The Tiny Bookcase crossover
    Nov 4 2025

Season 9 kicks off with a glorious crossover with Ben and Nico from The Tiny Bookcase!

In this episode (which may have slightly exceeded the 1 hour timeslot):

    • RJ returns! Along with the clicky pen. And then goes on to explain how he nearly died. Don't worry, only nearly.

    • Ben manages to get the word 'banjanxed' into the show, which left the citizens suitably impressed.

    • Talk gets unexpectedly spicy

    • RJ and Scott fail to do the homework, which inevitably leads to Scott being fired

    • RJ fundamentally misunderstands the concept of 'moving on'

    • The Tiny Bookcase theme tune is seamlessly inserted into the edit and the differences between Writeopolis's and The Tiny Bookcase's editing processes are made abundantly clear

    • Eventually we reach The Tiny Bookcase portion of the episode and Ben, Nico and Kit (who actually did the homework) all read their short stories to the shared prompt of Frown – I'm giving no details on this part of the show as any details would be considered spoilers, but it's delightful!

Listen in for all this and more!

Please be aware there is a content warning for episode due to discussion of sexual assault in TV shows

  • Writeopolis S8 E8 - Jonathan Zaurin
    Oct 28 2025

In this extremely unique episode of Writeopolis, we have Kit flying solo as host to the wonderful Jonathan Zaurin!

The two discuss the film Derelict, its premier at Fright Fest and the dangers in trying to keep such things secret, as well as the joys and struggles of making indie films. They also touch upon the perils of losing time to video games, the lack of risk-taking in Hollywood and both Jonathan and Kit reveal their very strong opinions on musicals and musical episodes.

Listeners will also get a sneak peak at the very recently released Millionaire's Day and King Kong comes up in conversation, which is a complete surprise to everyone in an episode where Kit is the only host.

    Enjoy!
