    This week we catch up on what's been happening with Calgarians playing NCAA soccer this season. We interview Nyema Ingleton, who is a defender at West Virginia University and with the Jamaican women's national team. Nyema grew up in Airdrie and played soccer as a youth in Calgary before moving to Vancouver to join the Whitecaps program. We talk about her career so far, the Mountaineers upcoming first match in the NCAA soccer tournament and what it's like to play international football with Jamaica.

    Cavalry FC is now in their offseason, but we look at a list of players who we suspect are out of contract. We also talk about Cavalry players participating in international action this week.

    League One Alberta handed out their season end awards, the Villains Dome is inflating and Calgarian Drew Fischer won MLS referee of the year for the second year in a row.

  • Cavs, Cougars both suffer championship defeats in snowy Ontario

    It's the final weekend for the two Calgary teams that made it to a national championship. Both Cavalry FC and the Mount Royal Cougars men's team were faced with snowy conditions in Ontario. Both matches went into extra time and both teams ultimately lost their games.

    We review Cavalry FC's 2-1 loss to Atletico Ottawa in a rather unforgettable match especially when it comes to the weather.

    The Cougars were a few hundred km to the southwest in Toronto but faced similar snowy conditions. Their match ended in a 1-0 victory for York with a controversial handball call giving the Lions a penalty for the win.

  • Cavalry prepares for CPL final, MRU Cougars advance at Nationals

    We preview this weekend's CPL championship final between Ottawa and Cavalry FC. Cavs defender Callum Montgomery joins us to talk about preparations for the match and also talks about his career including his time growing up in Nanaimo.

    The MRU Cougars men's team is at USports nationals this week and they had success in their opening match vs Max Piepgrass and the Cape Breton University Capers. The Cougars advance to the semifinals vs UQTR on Friday.

    We also review USports player award winners and all stars, Trojan Nikki Charlton winning the CCAA Women's Player of the Year, and a few updates about the Calgary Wild, including a job posting for the club that we noticed.

  • Cavalry advance to third straight CPL final while MRU wins Canada West at the death

    We talk about three matches in our weekend update episode:

    Cavalry FC defeated Forge FC in Hamilton this weekend. The Cavs will appear in their third consecutive CPL championship final next weekend. We talk about the victory and have audio from Tommy Wheeldon Jr and Shamit Shome from the post match press conference.

    The Mount Royal Cougars men's team inaugurated their new turf field on campus with a dramatic win over nationally #1 ranked UBC. The Cougars claim their second Canada West title in three years and are now off to USports nationals in Toronto.

    The Dinos women's squad defeated MRU Cougars in the Canada West bronze medal match.

  • Sjard Strauss talks about MRU Cougars season and that wild penalty shootout

    We preview Cavalry FC's playoff match with Forge this weekend. Both of us expect an epic battle.

    The MRU Cougars men's team will face UBC in the Canada West final on Saturday afternoon at Mount Royal. We discuss the match with Cougars keeper Sjard Strauss. We also talk about how he ended up going to school in Canada, his career and his perspective of that wild match last weekend vs Victoria where he scored the winner in penalty kicks.

    Both the Cougars and Dinos women's teams lost in their semifinal playoff matches on Thursday evening. We also review Canada West women's player and all star awards.

    We also have ACAC all star and player awards, Charlie Trafford's inclusion in Avenue magazine's 40 under 40 and we pay tribute to coach Noel Smith who passed away unexpectedly this week.

    We recap Cavalry FC's dominant victory over York on Sunday afternoon. Jason was also at the MRU Cougars men's match vs the University of Victoria. He talks about the penalty shootout that went 11 rounds before the Cougars prevailed.

    The Dinos and Cougars women's teams advanced to the next weekend's Canada West final four. The SAIT Trojans did not have a very good championships weekend in Raymond. We discuss all of these matches in our weekend recap episode.

    • Cavalry FC face York United on Sunday at Spruce Meadows
    • MRU men's and women's team both play at home this weekend.
    • Dinos women's are in action at McMahon on Friday
    • Dinos men's are in Vancouver
    • SAIT Trojans men's and women's are both in Raymond for the ACAC Championships

    We preview each of these matches

    Some Calgary Wild players are called up to their respective national teams, and a former podcast guest wins NSL Rookie of the Year.

    We found a plan to build a new stadium on the University of Calgary campus. This would be a 7500 seat stadium that would be home to Dinos varsity sports, including the soccer teams. We discuss this initiative led by the Dinos football alumni organization "The 5th Quarter"

  • Surprise victors in the Crowchild Classics, Cavs lock up third place with another draw vs Vancouver

    This weekend marked the end of the regular season for seven Calgary based soccer teams. All seven of these teams will be headed to the post season next weekend.

    Cavalry FC wound up their season on Saturday afternoon where they drew Vancouver FC yet again. However the single point was enough to clinch third place. They will play the winner of HFX vs York in a match at Spruce Meadows on Sunday.

    There were two editions of the Crowchild Classic this weekend. The Cougars women and Dinos men emerged victorious. We have some post game comments from both Tino Fusco and Diogo Raposo. The SAIT Trojans also racked up some wins on their way to the ACAC playoffs.
