A short life of Dickens which celebrates the impact of the theatre on his life and work. Two hundred years after his death, Dickens’s work is more popular than ever, in a variety of media, most of them undreamed of during his lifetime. Over the last few decades of intensive research, Dickens the man has become much better known to us and the sheer originality of his personality blazes forth as never before.

Theatre Royal. The very name summons up something of grandeur and eloquence. And it was. Hosted by Laurence Olivier, these big-name productions also included the creme de la creme of acting talents from John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson and Orson Welles to Trevor Howard, Michael Redgrave and Olivier himself. They were based on works by the world's leading authors, among them Charles Dickens, Henry James, Oscar Wilde and Anton Chekhov. These are but a few of whose company we shall be keeping as we raise the curtain on our first instalment of theatrical history.

A ghostly adaptation of the beloved classic. This script was adapted for the stage by MOD Theatre Company for an off-Broadway production at the Clurman Theatre on Theatre Row. It was adapted from the original text to be performed by eight storytellers who reimagine Dickens' work with skill and dexterity. MOD does for A Christmas Carol what Peter and the Starcatcher did for Peter Pan.
