In a peaceful suburban town outside Minneapolis, life is simple. The only thing that matters in RiverCreek is whether the high school varsity hockey team will finally win a state title after a two-decade dry period. Cory Dubois, the team's second-best scorer and leader in goal assists, has dreams of one day leaving RiverCreek to become a doctor. While Cory keeps busy hanging out with his best friend, he plays aggressively in the rink, battling one opponent after the other with his teammates. When Cory is asked to show a new girl around school, she quickly captures his attention.

At the end of Escaping Rivercreek, Cory returns home from a near-death experience. The love of his life and mother of his child, Tara, is still a beautiful, bright, loving, successful woman. Not everything remains the same. Cory suffers from PTSD, regrets, and harsh memories that haunt his mind, body, and soul. As events unfold, they're forced to reevaluate their lives while trying to rekindle the love they left behind as teenagers in high school. A tragedy that hasn't been seen since the day Franklin was murdered and Kayla was killed in a freak accident.
