In seguito al divorzio dei suoi genitori, Gretchen Page si trasferisce da un piccolo paesino a Shadyside, proprio in quella inquietante via di cui tutti in città sembrano aver timore, Fear Street. Per lei si tratta di un nuovo inizio, ma Gretchen vuole continuare a coltivare la sua grande passione: fare la cheerleader ed entrare nella squadra della Shadyside High. C'è però solo un posto disponibile e Gretchen dovrà contenderselo con la ricca e viziata Devra Dalby, intenzionata a non lasciarsi sfuggire questa occasione.

Caitlyn ha diciassette anni, frequenta la Shadyside High e le piace molto scrivere. Talmente tanto che tiene un Diario dove annota nel dettaglio la sua vita di tutti i giorni. Dalle serate con le amiche di sempre, ai turni di lavoro al cinema, fino alle cene insieme ai genitori a cui è molto affezionata. Ovviamente, nel Diario non può mancare l'amore. Una sera Caitlyn fa un incontro davvero speciale: a stregarla è un ragazzo dagli enigmatici occhi grigio-verdi di nome Blade. Quella sera stessa, però, Caitlyn conosce per caso anche un'altra persona: Deena Fear.
