This is the first monographic English-language biography of an important 19th century figure in Russian History, General Count Mikhail Tarielovich Loris-Melikov (1824-1888). He was an Armenian who was ennobled for his outstanding military service in the army of the Russian Empire through more than 150 battles in the Caucasus, Crimea, and Turkey. Here we see his life-long efforts on behalf of the culturally diverse citizens of the Russian Empire in the 19th century.
