Marty Mann The first woman to get sober in Alcoholics Anonymous tells her story in a 1968 talk at San Francisco, CA. This is the best example of Marty Mann recovery story I have heard. The sound quality is very good, which is unusual for a 1968 AA recording. Great audiobook about recovery - historic and enjoyable. Marty was the first woman to achieve lasting sobriety in AA, founder of National Council on Alcoholism, author of at least two books on alcoholism, author of AA's The Big Book story "Women Suffer, Too", and co-founder of The AA Grapevine.

From the very start of his medical practice, even during his training, Doctor Silkworth (born 1873) worked with Alcoholics and Drug Addicts. Beginning with details of Doctor Silkworth's early medical career. The book tells how Doctor Silkworth got his Medical Doctorate and license to practice medicine (1899) from Bellevue Hospital in New York City. How he treated the multitude of drunks and drug addicts that passed through Bellevue. Then with the outbreak of World War One Doctor Silkworth joined the Army as a Doctor (Rank=Captain) treating combat veterans suffering battlefield trauma.

When rare book librarian Emma Boyd searches for a pirate's long-lost treasure map, she learns the hard way that pirates still exist in today's world - and some modern pirates steal maps, others steal hearts. The treasure map she seeks belonged to the Caribbean pirate Thomasina Farris, who disappeared in 1715 without a trace. Did Captain Tommy steal an entire treasure from a Spanish galleon and escape? Did she die by another pirate's sword?

This is recovery in Alanon. Mary Pearl T is a hoot with a powerful recovery message. She tells lots of great stories showing how alcoholism in others made her very ill. How she got well in Alanon. How she repaired her relationship with her mother by making amends. Some stories about getting active in Alanon service and sponsorship. This is a very high quality recovery message. Enjoyable, funny, and very helpful.

Tom Powers got sober in early New York AA. He was a friend and confidant of Bill W and many pioneer era AAs. He shows by his own experience what alcoholism does to a person. A lot of his talk is about getting sober in AA; his experiences in AA. Tom founded All Addicts Anonymous to help people with complicated addictions and pioneered a recovery community (East Ridge).

Speaking to an enthusiastic AA crowd, Father Joseph Martin talks about AA and then proceeds to talk in order about the 12 Steps. A very good example of Father Joseph Martin's excellent AA message.

Sandy talks at length about Dr. Carl Jung and the importance of spirituality for happiness, contentment, and sobriety.

This was a momentous occasion. First, Bill officially transfers the leadership of AA to the General Service Conference. Then he introduces Lois, who speaks for almost 10 minutes. Then Bill Introduces Ebby who speaks briefly. And then Bill Introduces Sister Ignatia. She says some nice things and invokes God's blessing on AA and everyone AA touches. Bill Tells his story and the story of AA from the beginning.

In telling his recovery story, Chuck weaves into it the topic of surrender. He talks about his drinking and descent into alcoholism. His complete powerlessness to either control his drinking or stop for good. How he got sober and then learned to rely on his Higher Power through surrender.

This talk is very general, and is relevant to all sorts of addictions. As a recovery speaker, Bob Earll was sort of a Swiss Army knife. His message fit Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as Adult Children of Alcoholics. Though an Alcoholic, the drug addiction part of his alcoholism enabled him to speak to Narcotics Anonymous. This talk is at a Cocaine Anonymous event, and his opiate use would have qualified him to speak to Heroin Anonymous.

Wynn Laws is the author of the Big Book Story: Freedom from Bondage, 4th Edition on Page 544. This recording is very much in the spirit of her story in Big Book, but much more, she gives more detail and tells other stories about sobriety. She talks about her institutional work. Wynn pioneered work in California women's prisons. At the time of this talk (1973), her mother is living with her. Her mother is the person she had the difficulty removing resentment against. At the time of talk, they were happily living together.

Frank has a great message about getting sober and being a happy, effective AA member while sponsoring and helping others.

Texas humorist Jim Williams talks about the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. If you don't like "God Talk", this is probably not the steps set for you. Lots of funny stories to laugh along with. Much of the humor is based in coming from Southern Baptist culture and finding sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous. A serious message wrapped in a hilarious delivery.

Finding renewal in recovery - let go of old habits and attitudes welcome new understanding and enjoyments about moving on from past to a new life in sobriety. An enjoyable and uplifting spiritual retreat - also very good for Al-Anon recovery.
