The Dark Is Coming was inspired by the author’s real-life fear of the darkness. Athena Reid wondered if the dark could be a creature or "monster" this is how she would imagine it to be. Athena understands that the only solution for darkness is light, which she represents in this story very vividly. It is also the belief of Athena that the light within each of us is also the solution to the darkness in this world.
