Deep in the swamps of Louisiana, Detective London Carter investigates a double murder in Magnolia Parish. A father and son are watching television in their living room when they are suddenly and brutally gunned down. It doesn’t take London long to develop possible suspects, but all of the motives are weak, and London is left wondering if there’s someone else out there with an axe to grind. The murder weapon is a rare one, and it might help identify the killer… if only London could find it.

When a woman is found dead on her doorsteps—shot through the heart with an arrow—Clint Wolf and Susan Wilson go to work trying to track down the sadistic killer. On the very next day, a second victim is murdered in his driveway (killed in the same manner) and it's now a race against time to uncover the motive behind the killings and identify the murderer. What they know so far is that he's a skilled archer preying on human targets, and they have no clue where he'll strike next.

Although more than sixty rifle rounds were fired in the senseless killing, there were no witnesses and no video surveillance, because the act occurred in the primitive camping area of the Waxtuygi Wildlife Nature Park.

All of the female mannequins have been stolen, but their clothes have been left behind. As though the theft weren't strange enough, the case becomes even more bizarre when some of the stolen property turns up in a sugarcane field, but riddled with bullets.

In broad daylight on a calm, sunny day in August, a young college student suddenly disappears in Le Diable Lake and never resurfaces. Despite a desperate search by her boyfriend, she is not found. While en route to the scene of the disappearance, Clint Wolf and Officer Melvin Saltzman make a grim discovery that is seemingly unrelated to the initial report.

When a local businessman’s arm is found in the jowls of a large alligator, Clint Wolf and Susan Wilson investigate to find out how it got there. They quickly discover that the man was murdered, but thanks to a secret force working against them, solving the case will be no easy task. A new dog comes into Clint’s life, and not only does it bring him hope after having lost his wife and daughter two years earlier, but it proves to be quite the guard dog when a dangerous stranger comes sneaking around.
