Brave, clever and never more than a whisker away from adventure! When the museum’s visitors are gone for the day, it’s time for the cats to come out to play. The kittens can’t wait to welcome a group of schoolchildren to the museum’s first ever sleepover! Especially Bianca, who loves people fussing over her. So when Bianca goes missing after a squabble with the other kittens, they worry that she has run away with the children. But the rats have been sniffing around the sleepover too. For Polly, moving to Penhallow Hall is the fresh start she’s been longing for since the death of her father. One night, Polly sleepwalks into the garden and wakes to find her hand on the head of one of the stone dogs that guard the steps down to the lawn. Then she feels him lick her cheek! The dog introduces himself as Rex, an Irish Wolfhound who lived at Penhallow many hundreds of years earlier.

When Lola moves house she can’t help feeling sad to leave her old friends and life behind. She’s always been shy and worries it’ll be hard to make friends at her new school. It’s not all scary, though. Lola loves her new home with its rambling garden and the deer that sometimes wander in through the broken fence. The otters who live on the Greenriver have only just begun to recover from last year's flood when a swan arrives with news of a new threat: a clan of foxes is travelling closer and closer to the holt. Legends that have been passed down from otter to otter and beaver to beaver portray the foxes as sneaky, cruel creatures. Soon, the tenuous peace that has been brokered between the otters and beavers is threatened by this news. The otter holt and beaver lodge each believe a different course of action should be taken.

Darcy is delighted her lively new tabby kitten, Charlie, is settling in so well – if only he would just wear a collar! Then Darcy is picked to join her school football team and suddenly she hardly has any time for entertaining a kitten. Charlie is bored now Darcy has no time to play with him, so he ventures over the back wall to explore. There he meets a new friend, a cat-loving lady who makes lots of fuss over him. But Darcy soon starts to notice that Charlie keeps disappearing and one night he doesn’t come back at all. What if he doesn’t want to be her kitten any more?

Jack is having a hard time at school because he can’t read as well as the other children. One day, he visits the animal shelter with his sister and notices a nervous puppy called Daisy. He sits next to her while practising his reading. Jack keeps visiting Daisy at the shelter. As she gets more confident, Jack thinks she is ready to be adopted. But when another family takes an interest in Daisy, Jack is worried that he will lose his friend forever …

When Hailey’s family go away for the night, Isla offers to cat-sit. But to her surprise Silky is more timid than usual. The kitten is clearly terrified of Pickle, and Isla has to stop a fight between the two cats. How can Isla break the news to Hailey that her new kitten is so unhappy?
