Mrs. Delaney’s first introduction to AA was when her brother, Oscar, sobered up with the help of Bill Wilson. It was seven years later, after battling her own alcoholism that she found herself, one of the first women, in the rooms of AA. Mrs. D was a pioneer in the field of alcoholism treatment and was instrumental in the treatment and recovery of many alcoholics and their family members.

He opens with a very funny drunk joke that I was surprised that I hadn't heard. Clarence tells his own story, his drinking and how he came in contact with his sponsor Dr. Bob. He talks about his early sobriety some of which qualifies as AA history. How the Cleveland contingent of the Akron Oxford Group broke away because of its many Catholic members and the need for a group made up solely of alcoholics and their families.

The roles of faith, belief, and spirituality in Heroin Anonymous are covered, but mostly this audio book is about behavior motivating beliefs, like those of the cognitive model. The beliefs of using heroin addicts about their addiction, their life and heroin are what keeps them using. These beliefs are shaped by the addict’s mental obsession which excuses and justifies using at every turn. Obsessions of every kind function by excusing and justifying aberrant behavior.

In telling his recovery story, Chuck weaves into it the topic of surrender. He talks about his drinking and descent into alcoholism. His complete powerlessness to either control his drinking or stop for good. How he got sober and then learned to rely on his Higher Power through surrender.

This talk is very general, and is relevant to all sorts of addictions. As a recovery speaker, Bob Earll was sort of a Swiss Army knife. His message fit Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as Adult Children of Alcoholics. Though an Alcoholic, the drug addiction part of his alcoholism enabled him to speak to Narcotics Anonymous. This talk is at a Cocaine Anonymous event, and his opiate use would have qualified him to speak to Heroin Anonymous.

Wynn Laws is the author of the Big Book Story: Freedom from Bondage, 4th Edition on Page 544. This recording is very much in the spirit of her story in Big Book, but much more, she gives more detail and tells other stories about sobriety. She talks about her institutional work. Wynn pioneered work in California women's prisons. At the time of this talk (1973), her mother is living with her. Her mother is the person she had the difficulty removing resentment against. At the time of talk, they were happily living together.

After Bill had accumulated significant sobriety a celebratory dinner was held in New York City at which Bill gave an AA talk. (Bill drank for 17 years and staying sober for an 17 years was a notable milestone not only to him but to Lois as well.) Bill talks about the role that Ebby played in getting Bill interested in sobriety and the role of Doctor Silkworth in helping him stay sober.

Bill is casual, upbeat and humorous as he talks about the events that founded the Alcoholics Anonymous Fellowship.

Easy Does It, the Story of Mac is a biographical novel written by the late Doctor William D. Silkworth MD about an alcoholic named Mac who recovers from alcoholism in Alcoholics Anonymous. Mac seeks help from a church pastor know throughout the text as the Padre. Together they learn all about Mac’s alcoholism and the Padre helps Mac along as Mac finds sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous. In the course of the novel the listener learns in depth about alcoholism and alcoholics anonymous in altogether human terms.
