While the practice of Yoga is now being widely embraced by the West in context with health benefits, body flexibility and as a relaxation method, in a world where most of us now have on a material level almost everything we need, the spiritual aspects and questions of quality of life, happiness and well-being are center stage questions now. To be happy is now more valued than material riches, money and prestige which many have but realize that they did not find happiness through them.

These teachings explore different aspects of human unawareness and emphasize Buddha's key message of raising our consciousness. Compiled by Buddha's disciples, these sutras capture the essence of his wisdom.

The Sutra of Forty-Two Chapters is a succinct summary doctrine by which Buddhism was introduced to China. Each of the 42 sutras begins with "the Buddha said" This particular sutra deals with The 20 Difficult Things to Accomplish in this World and Osho takes us through each verse, and dissects it line by line, never omitting to explain - in clear modern terms - the real meaning of the verses.

Responsibility is a scary subject for many. It is often perceived to be a burden. "Problems are there, but problems come from within you and then they are projected on other people." Osho lays out a different way of understanding and behavior which will result in a totally different kind of life.

Everybody wants change, everybody wants "the situation" to change, because now even the most stupid person can see that something is going off track on our planet and with humanity; whether people personally want to change is a different question. Osho speaks about George Gurdjieff, one of the most significant masters of this age. He used to say, "You are in prison." Osho emphasizes this as something to be always remembered as one of the first principles for any seeker of truth.

The story of Mojud which Osho introduces here is one of the greatest stories. It has that special flavor that only a Sufi story can have. It is incomparable. It is not just a story; Sufi stories are not just stories. They are not to entertain, but they are teaching devices.

Not believing, but only experiencing, says Osho in this inspiring series of talks, is a way of finding truth and meaning. While Nietzsche's declaration that "God is dead, therefore man is free" was an incredible step in understanding, he argues, it is in itself a negative solution and does not bring freedom. Simply removing God is not enough. Osho is no atheist by far and not in favor of any "anti-believe" system either. "It is meditation that fulfills your inner being and takes away the vacuum that used to be filled by a great lie, God."

The Sutra of 42 Chapters is a scripture complied in the first century CE. Each saying comes from Buddha, but the whole work was a new anthology created especially for introducing Buddhism in a new country. That’s why it makes such a good, basic introduction to the world view of Gautam Buddha.

"Time is that in which we live - it is horizontal. It is from A to B to C to D; it is in a line. Eternity is vertical. It is not from A to B and from B to C. It is from A to more A to still more A. It goes on upwards. The moment is rare because it happens only when meditation has reached ripening, maturity, when you have touched your innermost core." The vertical line opens a door to eternity.

Osho describes unconsciousness as the basement of our minds in which many things are buried, which find expression through your conscious. Like, millions of people watch boxing or football matches and their enjoyment is the expression of hidden violence.

Today, humanity is caught up in the mad complexity of the mind and there is an urgent need to rediscover simplicity and innocence. True transformation begins only when one steps outside the mind’s habitual patterns and encounters awareness directly.

Born with a Question Mark in Your Heart continues the Authentic Living series by Osho with talks by the contemporary mystic during his stay in the United States. Osho says: "It is fortunate that man is born with a question mark, otherwise he would be just another species of animal."

Happiness, pleasure, joy, bliss are addressed here by Osho and we learn the different levels of development: "Let us start from the lowest because that will be easier to understand, that’s where man biologically is born. Pleasure is physical"....

In alternating chapters Osho comments on specific sutras of Buddha and responds to questions from his audience, deepening the understanding of these timeless works. "My talking on Buddha is not just a commentary: It is creating a bridge. Buddha is one of the most important masters who has ever existed on the Earth - incomparable, unique."

The word Christ came into existence 300 years after Jesus; and out of the word Christ developed Christian and Christianity. While Friedrich Nietzsche stated that Christ was the last Christian, according to Osho, Jesus was not only the last Christian, but he was also the first Christian–the first and the last Christian, because in this world no individual is ever repeated.
