This book covers the life and experiences of Lester Patrick, an African American born and raised in North Carolina during the Jim Crow and segregation periods of our country's history. It covers some events that took place following Reconstruction that led up to the Jim Crow period and Black and White Americans' attitudes that evolved because of these events. This book is written for audiences of all ages and races for this extraordinary time in our country's history. And it contains both serious and humorous experiences.

My sincere thoughts as I wrote this book was to capture the many marriage lessons I have learned over time. One of the greatest revelations is that your marriage journey will always start with you. You can only control your actions. I can tell you that if you do not ask the right relationship questions, you will never get the right answers to sustain a viable marriage.

I have personally found that as humans, we often limit ourselves. Perhaps you feel that way, too. Interestingly enough, it's much more common than you may think. Many actually decide that they want to live a life limited in its potential! I hope to change that thought pattern for anyone who is interested. Every person you have ever met - in fact, every person you have ever heard of - possesses a hidden superpower. We, as humans, are all blessed with one hidden superpower - the greatest one of all. We all have free will, the ability to literally change everything we experience.

Joe Ruddy (rhymes with bloody) was a former military policeman. New to the Dallas Police Department and even newer to the detective division, Joe found himself being assigned to all the shitty cases the veterans did not want to investigate. Joe was a self-conscious alcoholic who wrote songs and sang in bars and honky tonks. He did not consider himself a professional singer but enjoyed singing as a hobby. His hobby made Joe the prime candidate for reopening an old homicide case.

Martin Robison Delany (1812-1885) was an African-American abolitionist, journalist, physician, and author. He was one of the first three black people admitted to Harvard Medical School. Delany dreamed of establishing a settlement in West Africa and visited Liberia, a United States colony founded by the American Colonization Society. He was a prolific writer, and his book The Origin and Objects of Ancient Freemasonry, Its Introduction Into the United States, and Legitimacy Among Colored Men was published 1853.

Edward Wilmot Blyden (1832-1912) was a diplomat, educator, writer and politician. Born in the West Indies, he migrated to Liberia in 1851. Blyden’s writings on pan-Africanism were influential in Liberia and Sierra Leone, the two countries founded in the time of slavery for the resettlement of free blacks from the United Kingdom and the United States. Blyden believed that Zionism was a model for what he termed Ethiopianism, and that African-Americans could return to Africa and redeem it.
