Deep in the permafrost of the Arctic, a joint task force, comprised of over one dozen countries, comes together to level up their winter skills. They rub elbows with hardy locals and a group of scientists gathered close by.

Detective Kate Morgan arrives at a broken-down house, supposedly the site of a suspicious death, only to receive a screaming warning from Simon not to enter the building. Turns out, she had been given the wrong address but does find a dead body at the corrected address. As Kate sorts out whether she has a Black Widow on her most recent case, Simon tries to help a homeless man, who ends up in the morgue—now one of Kate’s newest files because that poor man’s body had been found in the broken-down house. That’s nothing compared to what else she finds on the premises.

Tandy’s every instinct told her to jump in and to take over the care of her two half siblings. They were twins, born to her mother later in life. Tandy hadn’t been in a position to help her older siblings, a guilt that still ate at her. These twins, however, had special needs, and she wasn’t sure she was up for the challenge. Nonverbal, they appeared to live in an alternate world, one she didn’t know how to reach.

Detective Kate Morgan is stumped, trying to decide when a case is really a case and when it belongs on her desk or someone else’s. She’s homicide and this? … This is something else, right? Following up the leads doesn’t help, only confuses the issue—until someone slips up or slips away literally. As usual, he has few answers, and the ones he does find make no sense.

Riches to rags...Chaos has calmed...At least while out on the lake...Until poison is found, blowing up the peace again...Enjoying a beautiful day on the lake, while Doreen tries her hand at paddleboarding, ends up on an odd note after finding poison in a bed of pansies. She garners a tidbit of information out of her BFF, Corporal Mack Moreau, about a man who’d recently walked into the emergency room, complaining he’d been poisoned.

Doreen is overwhelmed with joy when she sees all the volunteers who show up to help get her deck addition built. Most of the men are cops, friends of Corporal Mack Moreau’s, and are happy to help Mack’s special friend and the lady who has helped solve so many crimes for them with a spot of home renovation. But before the deck improvement can be finished, duty calls, and the cops are called away on a case. Another gray-haired lady has dropped dead. Yet another heart attack victim is added to the long line of previous ones.

Spending time with Mack is always fun, but, when Doreen overhears a conversation that sounds like a murder confession, he disagrees, … until a body shows up. Then he’s suddenly a whole lot more interested. The deceased young man had planned to attend the local college and had hoped to rekindle a relationship with an ex-girlfriend.

Weston was at an impasse in his life, after hearing about his unknown daughter, who’d already been adopted by another family. Only the father had since passed away...so...accepting the mission to track down the missing, blind-in-one-eye, limping war dog named Shambhala - in Alaska - was exactly where he needed to be to sort out this other issue in his life. Finding the dog turned out to be easier than Weston had expected, but sorting out how and why this dog’s owners had been murdered was something else again.

Kylie Oakwood is a new police sketch artist with an amazing talent but also a very secretive past. She’s desperate to make a good life for herself and to forget all about the tragedy in her life. Not that it’s easy being in the one field she should most likely avoid. Detective Porter Hanson takes note of the nightmares in the back of this young woman’s eyes, but it’s so easy to forget when he sees her artwork and how well she handles the witnesses.

After finding the killer who tried to take out the entire team and now with Bullard safe, the crew heads back to the island where he recovered. Leia wants to get married there, so Dave has gone ahead with Katie, Bullard’s caterer, to set things up. Katie has been in Dave’s orbit for a long time; she’s not sure what’s changed in their relationship, but something certainly has, and she couldn’t be happier. Except for one loose thread from that same island. After all, someone let the outside world know Bullard was alive.

Back in Ireland as a young girl, Issa had formed a strong bond with the falcon her father used as the lookout for his smuggling operation. One night, during a job gone wrong, her father and brothers were killed. Issa's mother wanted a fresh start, and they immigrated to America. Issa pursues a career in environmental sciences and continues her passion for falconry. Unable to find a special falcon like the one she'd had in Ireland is a constant disappointment for her...until the fateful day her world explodes yet again.
