When I speak of Jesus or any other character of Scripture, I am speaking of the personification of a principle, not of a person as you are or I am. The Bible records vision, and it makes no reference to persons or events which occurred on Earth. Unfortunately, people have mistakenly taken personifications spoken of persons - the vehicle that conveyed the instruction for the instruction and the gross first sense - for the ultimate sense intended.

We are all dwellers in two kingdoms, the inner kingdom, the kingdom of the mind and spirit, and the outer kingdom, that of the body and the physical universe about us. In the former, the kingdom of the unseen, lie the silent, subtle forces that are continually determining, and with exact precision, the conditions of the latter. To strike the right balance in life is one of the supreme essentials of all successful living. We must work, for we must have bread. We require other things than bread. They are not only valuable, comfortable, but necessary.

We shall then inquire into the way in which thoughts are generated; in other words, how the intellectual storehouse is furnished with suitable materials. The goal of mankind is knowledge. That is the one ideal placed before us by Eastern philosophy. Pleasure is not the goal of man, but knowledge. Pleasure and happiness come to an end.
