Broken Hearts

In search of a job, Theo joins an organization as an evaluator, devoted to supernatural pursuits. Her colleagues and the work she does there test her to the limit. The wondrous mansion, however, requires no believers. In her first case with David, she encountered a client who claimed to have seen a demon. Despite remaining skeptical, Theo wondered if there was more to the situation than meets the eye. While her scientific background urged her to seek rational explanations, this internal conflict left her questioning whether there were realms beyond her understanding.

Childhood was an amazing period of life–a time when you were unconditionally dependent on the decisions of adults. Theo always consider herself an obedient child and never thought of being anything else. Obedient children were held up as examples to the neighbors, but even obedient children were sometimes drowned in the river by distraught mothers. Theo often saw fear in her mother‘s eyes. That fear had many shades. Most often superstitious. But rarely gratuitous. And when next to her father always reverent.

As a child, Theo absorbed, among other things, a belief in the immortality of the soul. Her mother often said that if her daughter believed in it sincerely and zealously, she would never be alone. More often than not, these words were frightening. They made Theo think about the inevitability of death. But in a way, they also brought comfort. She knew that she would never be alone, no matter what happened. Poison in plastic cups, and stray bullets became the best teachers there ever were within the walls of that small church. They spelt it out. Death was just death and nothing else.
