Harvey Girls Romance

Lizzy grew up on a farm in Kansas as the oldest child of eight children. She spent her days caring for her siblings and working on the farm. One hot summer day, her parents gave her an ultimatum: Marry a man her father chose for her, or move out. Not wanting to marry a man who is almost as old as her father and knowing she was just another mouth to feed, she decides to apply for the position to be a waitress with the Fred Harvey Company, owner of many fine eating establishments along railroad lines including the Santa Fe Railroads. 

Emily is suffering the ultimate trial. Her husband and best friend was killed in a bank robbery soon after they were married. A few weeks later, she discovers she is pregnant. After her daughter is born, Emily does everything she can to be a good mother, but her sister and her husband have other plans for her child, and they don’t include her. In order to support her baby, Emily makes the hard decision to become a Harvey Girl. She meets the local sheriff, Samuel Montgomery, and he comes up with his own plan to help Emily keep her baby.  

Josephine is expected to marry Matthew, a man she has known since she was a child. When he is given the opportunity to go to college to become a doctor, Jo decides she also wants to have an adventure. She decides to become a Harvey Girl while Matthew is gone. Over the next few years, Jo enjoys her new job and loves to explore parts of America she never thought she’d have the opportunity to see. She also meets Dalton Jackson and becomes good friends with him and his adoptive family. As she gets to know Dalton, she realizes she is planning on marrying Matthew only because it is expected of her.

What if you have been a Harvey Girl for several years but you really wanted to be a teacher? And then you fall in love with a cowboy? Sabrina has enjoyed being a Harvey Girl even though she would have preferred to become a teacher. Soon after her friend Jo marries a local man, Sabrina wonders if she will ever be able to have the opportunity to have a family. But she resigns herself to the fact that she will probably be a Harvey Girl for many more years, after all, she is starting to be considered an old maid.
