Sir Torin Cadwell, Knight-Captain of the Watch and the tyrant king’s illegitimate son, has spent his life torn between loyalty to his father and the pull of destiny. For generations, his bloodline has been cursed by a bitter feud with Kyhrax, the Flame of Zarag-Gul - the most feared dragon in Westskyr. The city of Dun Morlaig survives only because of the Breath - a magical barrier fueled by the crystallized heart of Astreya, the Great Mother dragon. Once a benevolent guardian, Astreya was slain by Torin’s ancestor, leaving Kyhrax consumed by grief and burning for revenge.

After the cultists’ defeat at the Battle of Dun Morlaig, a fragile peace returns to Westskyr. But whispers of another ancient drake awaken new fears, and the vengeful leader of the dragon cult will stop at nothing to unleash her fury. Torin, burdened by guilt and a sense of honor, sets out to find his lost companion. Aided by a fierce Holy Blade, his desperate search leads him to Briarhold in Wyndor, a city of dark secrets built inside a forest of towering trees.

Following the devastating events in Wyndor, Torin dares to hope his enemies have finally set aside their hatreds. For a year, the draconic cult has been silent, allowing Torin and his companion to forge a new life in Skrithe, the realm of master swordsmiths and forgers. But their peace was always an illusion. While journeying to the far north of Westskyr—the edge of the known world—Torin learns of a catastrophic attack. His past returns to haunt him, and now the realms teeter on the brink of annihilation.
