She was nearing the end of her long life. Anuian females rarely lived beyond 1000 years of age, and she was already 947. Her life had been uneventful and unfulfilling; she hadn't even been able to finish her education. She had no mates, no younglings, no family, and no friends. But then, one brave decision altered the course of her life forever. Deciding to accept the invitation from the new Rion - to leave her home and take up residence in the palace as a lady-in-waiting - triggered a cascade of events that led to miraculous changes that no one could have foreseen.
