The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs

After being reborn in the world of an otome game as an insignificant background character, Leon tries his best to lead an uneventful life, but someone else who reincarnated there has a different idea. Marie may be insignificant like Leon for now, but she's intent on slipping into the main character's role and claiming all the love interests for herself! Leon narrowly manages to impede her first attempt, but will this really stop her? Why does he have this sinking feeling that something's gone terribly wrong?!

Leon doesn't want a leading role, not in the kingdom and not in the game. Too bad for him. Between his new promotion and the attentions of protagonist Livia and villainess Angie, no one will leave him alone--least of all the prince and his lordly gang. Against his wishes, Leon keeps getting pulled deeper and deeper into these otome game plotlines. Somehow, he's ended up with the Guardian Crest of the Sacred Tree, which is supposed to manifest on the hand of the chosen love interest. But Noelle, the new protagonist, couldn't possibly feel such things for him, right? He's going to have to figure it out fast, or Noelle might be swept away by men with far darker intentions for the Alzer Republic... and for Noelle herself.

Leon may have saved Noelle from a life in chains, but her future is far from certain. Bound as she is to the Sacred Tree Sapling, she is a prize for every nation in the world. Worse, Leon's fiancees disagree over her fate: does Noelle have a responsibility to serve a nation, or should she be free to choose how she lives her life? Meanwhile, Noelle's own villainess, Louise, faces the same dire question. It seems the Sacred Tree has demanded a sacrifice in exchange for continuing to protect the Republic--and it wants Louise.

Leon thinks he's finally made a breakthrough in his relationship with Noelle, even if Marie's still accusing him of being a total incompetent. But all Leon's resolve may come to naught in the face of the platoon of problems rocketing toward him. He'll have to contend with everything from deteriorating parent-child relationships to a grudge-based coup d'etat to a full-blown AI uprising before he earns a happy ending for Noelle--and maybe even himself.
