Op het schilderij staan allerlei insecten afgebeeld en als hij verzucht dat hij daar zo graag eens zou zijn, gebeurt het wonder: Erik wordt piepklein en is opeens ín het schilderij. Daar beleeft hij allerlei avonturen; hij is onder meer te gast bij de wespenfamilie Vliesvleugel, logeert een tijdje in hotel Het Slakkenhuis en hij sluit vriendschap met een vlinder.
