In einer Nacht voller Unwetter wird im FlussClan ein Junges geboren, dem ein tragisches und glorreiches Schicksal zugleich widerfahren wird. Als Sturmjunges im Fluss um sein Überleben kämpft, erscheint ihm die geheimnisvolle Katze das erste Mal. "Deine Zeit ist noch nicht gekommen. Du hast eine große Bestimmung vor dir", weissagt sie ihm. Die Katze stellt allerdings auch eine Bedingung: Sturmjunges kompromisslose und lebenslange Treue zu seinem Clan. Sturmjunges willigt arglos ein.
