It's been seven months since all the adults disappeared. Gone. It happens in one night. A girl who died now walks among the living; Zil and the Human Crew set fire to Perdido Beach, and amid the flames and smoke, Sam sees the figure of the boy he fears the most: Drake. But Drake is dead. Sam and Caine defeated him along with the Darkness - or so they thought.

When a strange tear in the cosmos appears within Earth’s annual path, the consequences are disastrous. For one night a year, the vast majority of humans now undergo a frightening mental change, transforming into hateful, rage-fueled zombies who will stop at nothing to satiate their desire for brutality. While not much is understood about this horrific mass hysteria, the demographic it effects is very specific: cisgender straight people.

Months have passed since the descent of an ominous darkness over the world. Nightmarish creatures, contained within its depths, have brought humanity to the brink of extinction. The survivors fight an unending battle in this hellish new reality, where every step could be their last. Those who escape the man-eating beasts of darkness face another monster. A sinister figure forms a compound of those who see the event as an opportunity. One which there are no consequences for fulfilling their most vile desires. Speculation runs rampant.

There has been a major upheaval at Mount Weather. The president has been assassinated. Her running mate, who was her husband, is sworn in as president in order to preserve democracy, but in only a short time his behavior has put the Mount Weather community in a state of turmoil. If that wasn't bad enough, Chinese soldiers have been discovered on American soil and the zeds, already an ever present danger, are continuing to show signs of cognition and teamwork. The motives of both are unknown but do not bode well for the survivors.

Our survivors, separated and on the loose, find themselves surrounded by the dead and the living. Still trying to find their way, they bind themselves to each other through blood and bullets. Good news for them, bad news for anyone who gets in their way… because these bikes run on blood!

It is the ninth year of the zombie apocalypse. Zach and his group of survivors at Mount Weather are struggling with the effects of no manufacturing and the difficulties of reestablishing the United States of America. To add to the difficulties, President Stark's position as president is being challenged. If he loses in the upcoming election, what will happen to his right-hand man, Zach Gunderson?

The country is fighting losing battles on both coasts and from within as the desperate and the despicable fight for diminishing resources. American forces have been pushed to the brink and have been forced toward the center of the country in a frenzied bid to regroup. Darlene Bobich and her group struggle to elude capture from the Sawyer clan, hell-bent on enslaving everyone in sight. Meanwhile, Mike, BT and what remains of the National Guard forces are caught up in a multi-national conflict that could spell the end of the American way.

Winter falls hard on Oregon, burying the world under snow and ice. One group of survivors, stuck in a tomb of their own creation, fights to survive, while another group treks across the snowbound countryside, leaving a trail of bloody footprints in their wake...and an army of the undead.

I played all those cool video games. I watched all those movies. I even read the books. In most of 'em, the hero shoots the bad guys, drives a sweet car, never gets hungry, and always seems to get laid by the end. Yeah. Whatever. I gotta be straight with you about why I wrote this journal, and it comes down to one thing, the apocalypse kinda sucks. It doesn’t meet my expectations at all.

We meet Maddox and a group of council estate children who have survived the apocalypse by taking refuge in a cannabis plantation. When a horde of undead attack the children, Howie tries to save them only to find they turn on him. Eventually a truce is called, and an uneasy alliance begins to develop.

More than a year has passed since The Event, and the survivors who returned home are trying to stitch their lives back together. They think they are safe. But that is a lie. The Darkness has followed them, and this time It's amassing an army of allies. While key officials at Black Island fight to keep the secret, the survivors' lives converge again. Confused by terrifying visions and unpredictable rampages, they seek help wherever they can find it.

When the Halloran clan gathers at the family home for a funeral, no one is surprised when the somewhat peculiar Aunt Fanny wanders off into the secret garden. But then she returns to report an astonishing vision of an apocalypse from which only the Hallorans and their hangers-on will be spared, and the family finds itself engulfed in growing madness, fear, and violence as they prepare for a terrible new world.

For Jillybean, moments of utter happiness and pure sanity are as fleeting and wonderful as sun-showers at a July picnic. Her time with Granny Annie is one such moment, but as always it ends far too quickly and she is once more thrust back into a world of crushing loneliness and endless despair.
