Balthasar Gracián wurde am 8. Januar 1601 in Belmonte de Calatayud (Aragon) geboren. Diese Sammlung von 300 Weisheiten, Merksprüchen und praktischen Verhaltensregeln zählt zu den der berühmtesten Texte des 17. Jahrhunderts.
