After getting a note demanding his presence, Federal Agent Aaron Falk arrives in his hometown for the first time in decades to attend the funeral of his best friend, Luke. Twenty years ago when Falk was accused of murder, Luke was his alibi. Falk and his father fled under a cloud of suspicion, saved from prosecution only because of Luke’s steadfast claim that the boys had been together at the time of the crime. But now, more than one person knows they didn’t tell the truth back then, and Luke is dead.

Jenny Williams became a cop and moved to the middle of nowhere to solve a family mystery. Now, the case surrounding her cousin has been closed, she realises she can’t go back to city life. She loves the quirky locals, the outback policing and most of all, she’s in love with local station owner Nick Johnston. Juggling her work and farm life is proving difficult, but when a weekend on the cattle property turns into official police business, Jenny finds herself desperately searching for the owner of an abandoned vehicle.

The Australian Outback is a hot, remote, desolate place to die. Skeletal remains of several young women have been discovered in the bottom of a long-abandoned well, and major crime investigators Russell Foley and Sam Rose are assigned to the case. Foley and Rose soon learn a number of young backpackers, traveling around Australia on the adventure of a lifetime, have been reported missing in the area. Are these the remains of those unfortunate young women?
