Prayer is the most wonderful experience one can have. Unlike the daily murmurings of the vast majority of mankind in all lands who, by their vain repetitions, hope to gain the ear of God, prayer is the ecstasy of a spiritual wedding taking place in the deep, silent stillness of consciousness.

Max Ehrmann gained world fame with his poem Desiderata written in 1927. Many volumes of poetry and numerous plays followed, including three with spiritual themes: "Jesus: A Passion Play", "David and Bathsheba", and "The Wife of Marobius". Ehrmann was not a Christian, but this reinterpretation in verse of The Wisdom of Jesus Son of Sirach, better known as the book of Ecclesiastes from the Bible, was done with a deep respect for the philosophical wisdom contained in the original Greek manuscript.

If you took a census within any Sunday Service or Church meeting, at least 80% of the congregants would profess the desire to become a matured believer for Christ. But if you press the group to take their desire into practical day to day applications, the number of willing participants will significantly decline. Of course God is there to help you by His Spirit but you must be committed to playing your part.

Charles Dickens referred to the parable of the prodigal son as the greatest story ever written. He has not stood alone in that sentiment. For generations this brief parable, as told by Jesus Christ, has been not only familiar but captivating to its readers. Perhaps what makes this story so intriguing is the way so many of us can identify with the younger son, who rebelled against his father only to realize later the gravity of his mistakes.

Jesus is probably the most controversial person that has ever lived. You either love Him and what He stood for, or you hate Him, and all He stands for. What decision have you already made or are thinking about making? I think the next most controversial thing in history is the cross. Men have died for it, wars have been fought over it, and history cannot deny it. The symbol of that cross on that ugly hill has been woven into the fabric and the memory of the world.
