Sound words are words that when said out loud, they sound almost like that word. An example of a sound word is the word “moo,” which is close to the sound of a real cow. Sound words have a long, fancy name called onomatopoeia (on-uh-mat-uh-PEE-uh).

Doors in the Air is the story of a boy who is fascinated by doors. He marvels at how stepping through a doorway can take him from one world to another. He is especially enthralled by the doors of his imagination, which he refers to as "doors in the air." He delights in discovering that when he passes through these doors, he leaves behind all feelings of boredom, fear and unpleasantness.

Author Daniel L. Walker has written many poems about difficult times he experienced in his life. His debut poetry novel 2015 Mary Ballard Award Nominee titled: God's Rain talks about his personal demons, his marriage to co-author Teirra Walker, and dealing with rumors that his father allegedly molested a family member. In this story the child is invited on a journey where the narrator must find courage to take on a new challenge. The Animal Kingdom characters of Bravery and Bolder are called in to assist and model strength for the child. "The Away Cast” plays on the meanings of the word "cast." It is used as term for the cast of a play and also as a to examine the idea of the fear related to being "cast out." The story unfolds with the narrator auditioning for a play even though it creates some anxiety and discomfort.

Who Really Cares: Childhood Poems, by Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Janis Ian, includes all poetry from earlier print editions of this early proof of what was to come from one of America's most talented songwriters as well as additional poems rejected by the original publisher as being too "controversial"; a new forward and afterword; and more. Though Ian is a prolific composer and world-famous for her music and performances, this is the musician's only book of poetry.
