Beauty and the Beast is a traditional fairy tale. The original author is unknown. The first published version was a rendition by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, and the best-known written version is an adaptation of her work, published in 1756 by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont.
