Dakota History

Black Snake is the story of four leaders - LaDonna Allard, Jasilyn Charger, Lisa DeVille, and Kandi White - and their fight against the pipeline. It is the story of a new generation of environmental activists, galvanized at Standing Rock, becoming the protectors of America's natural resources.

The Wild West has made legends out of many men, but it also forged a lasting legacy for a few of the West's most legendary towns, and alongside the city of Tombstone, Arizona, perhaps the most famous of them was Deadwood in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Deadwood owes its notoriety to some of the colorful people who called it home, and a recent critically acclaimed television series about the town that brought it to life for millions of modern viewers.

When I first started to think of writing, I was in a foxhole in a war zone as an American soldier. Being a scared 21-year-old, I was lacking sleep, tired, stressed, and dirty. Eating cigarettes for breakfast while my ripped and torn-up clothes were rotting off my body, my thoughts seemed to be a little delusional at the time. I believed that writing down my thoughts would help me cope with my current life of death, destruction, misery, bullets, bombs, chemicals, and the enemy charging toward me.
