Here, inside of my second book, you will hear more stories from the gallery of my life. I am a South Californian gentleman living with disabilities—I was diagnosed with both cerebral palsy and scoliosis as a toddler. I am a writer who uses an augmentative alternative communication (AAC) device to speak. I wrote this sequel so that I could share more of my life with you, chronicling events from shortly after my high school graduation in 1991 all the way up to my 40th birthday in 2010.

Speaking My Truth is about a young man named Abdulahi Hassan who is born with a physical disability called Cerebral Palsy and tries to live a normal life. Regardless of his daily struggles he faces physically and mentally he is slowly learning to speak his truth and taking control of his own narrative one step at a time with a single beautiful smile.

Darlene was a small-town single mother from Arkansas. Bert was a small-town preacher’s son from Oklahoma. Polio crippled both of them as teenagers. When their paths crossed at a rehab center in 1952, these young adults questioned how anything good could come from this crippling virus. Bert’s faith in the Biblical passage of Romans 8:28 gave him hope that “Polio was not good, but God would bring good out of it.” Darlene’s journey to the rehab center was “the one way for God to get me in the right place at the right time.”

This is my inspirational true story of childhood sexual abuse that I endured. The abuse was a secret, even to me, due to the fact that all the painful images were locked up in my subconscious for close to 37 years.
