Growing up together in the Surra section of central Kuwait, Katkout, Fahd, and Sadiq share neither ethnic origin nor religious denomination - only friendship and a rage against the unconscionable sectarian divide turning their lives into war-zone rubble. To lay bare the ugly truths, they form the protest group Fuada’s Kids. Their righteous transgressions have made them targets of both Sunni and Shi’a extremists. They’ve also elicited the concern of Fahd’s grandmother, Mama Hissa, who cautions them that should they anger God, the sky will surely fall.

The tragedy of Al-Mansur is considered one of the poet Heine's earliest works. In it, he attempted to project his own feelings onto the story of his failed love for his cousin Amalie, who married another man. This caused him a psychological and spiritual crisis, which he tried to express in the tragedy of Al-Mansur.

مرداد‬ يُحكى أنّ نوح، بعد الطوفان، سأل ابنه أن يبني هيكلًا يشبه الفلك، في وسطه مذبح تشتعل فيه نار لا تنطفئ، وأن يجمع فيه تسعة رجال يسمّون "رفاق الفلك". نفّذ الابن الوصيّة، ومضت السنوات والفلك على حالها، إنّما رفاق الفلك على تغيّر: فبدل أن يكتفوا بما هو ضروريّ، جمعوا أملاكًا، وذهبًا، ومالًا، وتحوّلوا كهنة منكبّين على حماية قشور الدين وسطحية كهنوته.

أَلَا أَبْلِغْ عَلَيْكَ أَبَا دُلَامَهْ فَلَسْتَ مِنَ الكِرَامِ وَلَا كَرَامهْ إِذَا لَبِسَ العِمَامَةَ كَانَ قِرْداً وَخِنْزِيراً إِذَا نَزَعَ العِمَامَهْ جَمَعْتَ دَمَامَةً وَجَمَعْتَ لُؤْماً كَذَاكَ اللُؤْمُ تَتْبَعُهُ الدَّمَامَهْ فَإِنْ تَكُ قَدْ أَصَبْتَ نَعِيمَ دُنْيَا فَلَا تَفْرَحْ فَقَدْ دَنَتِ القِيَامَهْ

إِلَى هِنْدٍ صَبَا قَلْبِي وَهِنْدٌ مِثْلُهَا يُصْبِي وَهِنْدٌ غَادَةٌ غَيْدَا ءُ مِنْ جُرْثُومَةٍ غُلْبِ وَمَا إِنْ وَجَدَ النَّاسُ مِنَ الأَدْوَاءِ كَالحُبِّ لَقَدْ لَجَّ بِهَا الإِعْرَا ضُ وَالهَجْرُ بِلَا ذَنْبِ وَلَمَّا أَقْضِ مِنْ هِنْدٍ وَمِنْ جَارَاتِهَا نَحْبِي

أَبْلِغْ سُلَيْمَى بِأَنَّ البَيْنَ قَدْ أَفِدَا وَانْبِئْ سُلَيْمَى بِأَنَّا رَائِحُونَ غَدَا وَقُلْ لَهَا كَيْفَ أَنْ يَلْقَاكِ خَالِيَةً فَلَيْسَ مَنْ بَانَ لَمْ يَعْهَدْ كَمَا عَهِدَا نَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكِ فَأوْفِينَا بِعَهْدَتِنَا يَا أَصْدَقَ النَّاسِ مَوْعُوداً إِذَا وَعَدَا

إِنْ يَخْدِمِ القَلَمَ السَّيْفُ الَّذِي خَضَعَتْ لَهُ الرِّقَابُ وَدَانَتْ خَوْفَهُ الأُمَمُ فَالمَوْتُ وَالمَوْتُ لَا شَيْءٌ يُغَالِبُهُ مَا زَالَ يَتْبَعُ مَا يَجْرِي بِهِ القَلَمُ كَذَا قَضَى اللهُ لِلْأَقْلَامِ مُذْ بُرِيَتْ أَنَّ السُّيُوفَ لَهَا مُذْ أُرْهِفَتْ خَدَمُ

أَقُولُ لَهَا وَقَدْ طَارَتْ شَعَاعاً مِنَ الأَبْطَالِ وَيْحَكِ لَنْ تُرَاعِي فَإِنَّكِ لَوْ سَأَلْتِ بَقَاءَ يَوْمٍ عَلَى الأَجَلِ الَّذِي لَكِ لَمْ تُطَاعِي فَصَبْراً فِي مَجَالِ المَوْتِ صَبْراً فَمَا نَيْلُ الخُلُودِ بِمُسْتَطَاعِ سَبِيلُ المَوْتَ غَايَةُ كُلِّ حَيٍّ فَدَاعِيهِ لِأَهْلِ الأَرْضِ دَاعِي وَمَنْ لَا يُعْتَبَطْ يَسْأَمْ وَيَهْرَمْ وَتُسْلِمُهُ المَنُونُ إِلَى انْقِطَاعِ وَمَا لِلْمَرْءِ خَيْرٌ فِي حَيَاةٍ إِذَا مَا عُدَّ مِنْ سَقَطِ المَتَاعِ

أَلَسْتِ أَحْسَنَ مَنْ يَمْشِي عَلَى قَدَمٍ يَا أَمْلَحَ النَّاسِ كُلِّ النَّاسِ إِنْسَانَا طَارَ الفُؤَادُ مَعَ الخَوْدِ الَّتِي طَرَقَتْ فِي النَّوْمِ طَيِّبَةَ الأَعْطَافِ مِبْدَانَا إِنَّ العُيُونَ الَّتِي فِي طَرْفِهَا حَوَرٌ قَتَلْنَنَا ثُمَّ لَمْ يُحْيِينَ قَتْلَانَا يَصْرَعْنَ ذَا اللُبِّ حَتَّى لَا حَرَاكَ بِهِ وَهُنَّ أَضْعَفُ خَلْقِ اللهِ أَرْكَانَا لَقَدْ كَتَمْتُ الهَوَى حَتَّى تَهَيَّمَنِي لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ لِهَذَا الحُبِّ كِتْمَانَا

فَلَوْ أَنَّ مَا أَسْعَى لِأَدْنَى مَعِيشَةٍ كَفَانِي وَلَمْ أَطْلُبْ قَلِيلٌ مِنَ المَالِ وَلَكِنَّمَا أَسْعَى لِمَجْدٍ مُؤَثَّلٍ وَقَدْ يُدْرِكُ المَجْدَ المُؤَثَّلَ أَمْثَالِي وَمَا المَرْءُ مَا دَامَتْ حُشَاشَةُ نَفْسِهِ بِمُدْرِكِ أَطْرَافِ الخُطُوبِ وَلَا آلِي
