English Poetry Anthology

Thomas Roop has been fortunate enough to travel widely through his life, learning from a wide variety of cultures, traditions, and religions. These encounters inculcated and developed a love for humankind. While travelling through Denmark, he encountered and fell in love with the work of the 19th century poet, novelist, and playwright Hans Christian Anderson. The literature of T. S. Eliot, Carl Sandburg, Sylvia Plath, Maya Angelou, and others are all evident influences on Roop’s own work.

Part one of the continuing series entitled Painted Histories indexes leading figures in two significant phases of poetic expression in English literature: the Elizabethans, including William Shakespeare, John Webster and Sir Philip Sidney to the Romantic movement of the early 19th century: Lord Byron, John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
