English Poetry Anthology

One collection of random poetry I've written from 2006 to 2011, covering love, hate, angst, frustration, and longing of the soul. The first in a set to be released.

Alexander Pope was the most influential and most admired writer of his time, famous for satirical and reflective poems such as The Rape of the Lock and the Essay on Man. His lyrical poems are tantalizingly few in number but predictably high in quality, with all the beauty of sound and incisiveness of sense familiar from his other works.

This collection of classic poems of compassion and consolation on various subjects ranges from Wordsworth’s own bereavements to hardships faced by people in other times and other places.

Pose Prose and Poems: My Thoughts Exactly was the first compilation of poetry and prose by Janna Hill and was copyrighted in 1998. The verses reflect the hopes, dreams, hurt, and disappointments found in the human condition.

The question is asked by each of us, but the answer remains elusive. Dictionaries summon up many words, but none fulfill. Love itself is often ethereal, felt but only seen in a glance, a look, a fleeting touch. Part of love’s beauty is perhaps in the fact that the question never can be adequately answered; it's ephemeral, a chimera of the heart and only felt. The Shield of Heracles is an archaic Greek epic poem that was attributed to Hesiod during antiquity. The subject of the poem is the expedition of Heracles and Iolaus against Cycnus, the son of Ares, who challenged Heracles to combat as Heracles was passing through Thessaly. It has been suggested that this epic may reflect anti-Thessalian feeling after the First Sacred War (595–585 BCE): in the epic, a Thessalian hero interfering with the Phocian sanctuary is killed by a Boeotian hero (Heracles), whose mortal father Amphitryon had for allies Locrians and Phocians.

In Open Mouths Sharan Hunjan presents a vision of a world simultaneously familiar and strikingly strange. The quotidian, the domestic, the commonplace are interrogated and manipulated through the poet's eye for detail, linguistic sense of play and restless imaginative and philosophical impulses.

In Young Words, I expose many of the tough issues young people are facing, drawing from my own experiences. I discuss everything from education, finances, and occupation choices, to family life, relationships, and accomplishing goals. Young Words is a book of poetry highlighting the reality of the critical concerns that frame every young person’s life.

Thomas Roop has been fortunate enough to travel widely through his life, learning from a wide variety of cultures, traditions, and religions.
