La Resistenza a lungo è stata considerata solo una "cosa di sinistra": fazzoletto rosso e Bella ciao. Poi, negli ultimi anni, i partigiani sono stati presentati come carnefici sanguinari, che si accanirono su vittime innocenti, i "ragazzi di Salò". Entrambe queste versioni sono parziali e false.
