The Mesozoic Era, which lasted from about 252 to 66 million years ago, is divided into three periods, the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. During this era, one type of life came to dominate the planet more completely and for a longer period than had been seen before or since; this was the Age of Reptiles. Beginning in the Triassic but especially in the Jurassic period, reptiles came to dominate the oceans, the land and even the skies.

All was well for Martin Reed, a 20-year-old PhD biologist, until one day, he came across a gene sequence that seemed unusual, out of place. With the help of his girlfriend, Helen, Martin began exploring this mystery sequence. Buried in the deep secrets of our DNA lies a set of instructions on how to build a protein molecule. With these instructions, a learned person could create the very essence of what we know as life. Each day brought more detail and further “instructions”. Martin would soon conclude a very simple fact - we are not alone.
