Halloween Horror

Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson werden von Alice gerade genötigt in ihrem Familienalbum zu blättern, als Holmes eine dringliche Depesche erhält. Der Bürgermeister von Bran/Siebenbürgen bittet um Hilfe, da sich in seiner kleinen Stadt unerklärliche Vorfälle ereignen. Es mehren sich blutleere Leichen und schnell spricht man von einem Vampir. Die vierte Leiche führte Holmes und Watson in ein Krankenhaus. Die Krankenschwester Nancy Rogers wurde auf dieselbe Art und Weise getötet wie ihre Vorgänger. Um ihren Leichnam herum standen nun nur noch zwei Kürbisse. Am Abend danach hatte Watson wieder einen dieser furchteinflößenden Träume. Als er endlich wieder erwachte, konnte er Holmes ein Präsent vom Teufel persönlich überreichen. Und dieses Geschenk ließ nur auf einen einzigen Täter schließen.

Es war der 29. Oktober 1933, drei Tage vor Samhain, in der das Tor zur Anderswelt weit offen stand, und die Toten geehrt wurden und man sich gleichzeitig vor den bösen Geistern schützen musste, als Inspektor Wolfford bei Holmes und Watson in der Baker Street auftauchte und um Hilfe bat. Die Hebamme Mrs. Hughes wurde tot in ihrer Wohnung aufgefunden. Um die Leiche herum wurden fünf Kürbisse platziert, jeder davon mit einer Fratze versehen und hell erleuchtet.

Holmes wusste nun, wer der Täter sein musste. Anhand von Inspektor Wolffords Befragungen konnte Holmes schnell einen Zusammenhang herstellen.

Holmes und Watson waren zwar jetzt im Besitz eines Zettels, der die Vornamen der nächsten beiden Opfer preisgab. Doch wie sollten sie Inspektor Wolfford erklären, woher sie die Liste hatten? Zumal der Erhalt dieser Liste jegliche Logik von vorne herein ausschloss. Außerdem stellte sich noch die Frage, wer hinter dem dritten und letzten Opfer stecken sollte, da dieses nur mit einem Fragezeichen versehen war. Als Holmes und Watson schließlich auf das dritte Opfer, den Pfarrer Blake Bancroft, stießen, beschlich Holmes eine böse Vermutung, wer sich hinter dem letzten Opfer verbergen konnte.

Es gab einen weiteren Toten zu beklagen. Den Lehrer Joseph Ross. Den Tatort fanden Holmes und Watson identisch wie tags zuvor bei Mrs. Hughes auf, mit der Ausnahme, das anstelle von fünf Kürbissen nur mehr vier um die Leiche drapiert wurden. Holmes befürchtete daraufhin, würde man dem Muster folgen, dass man in den nächsten Tagen noch mindestens mit drei weiteren Leichen rechnen musste. Es galt den Täter so schnell wie möglich zu finden. Doch ein Traum von Dr. Watson ließ alles in einem neuem Licht erscheinen.
