First published in 1818, Frankenstein, or, the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley is the foremost Gothic novel of the romantic tradition, and inspired several other works in the horror genre. Shelley was inspired to write the story, often considered the first science fiction story ever written, after a visit to the Frankenstein castle, where, it was believed that two centuries back, an alchemist had conducted experiments.

Swann’s Way is the first and best-known part of Proust’s monumental work, Remembrance of Things Past. Often compared to a symphony, this complex masterpiece is ideally suited for audio. Listening lets you appreciate anew the incredible beauty of Proust’s language and the uniqueness of his style. The novel’s narrator, Marcel, finds the true meaning of experience in memories stimulated by some random object or event.

The great virtue of this volume is that it reveals a lighter, comic side of Sade. He was a man obsessed, like many great writers, and his obsessions are still present here: his hatred of all things pretentious, his loathing of a corrupt judicial system, his damning of hypocrisy and false piety. One of the great anarchists of all time, he was nevertheless far from mad (as many pretended) and these works of fiction shed another light on this most feverish of minds.
