May of 1970. Student protests are happening around the country in response to American military expansion into Cambodia during the Vietnam War. At a college campus in Southern California, similar protests are taking place, with a young candidate for governor at the school one day in support of student activity and advancing his campaign for California's gubernatorial race. Präzise leitet der große Detektiv aus der Chronologie der bisherigen Morde und der in ihnen enthaltenen Symbolismen eine Prognose für den mutmaßlich nächsten Tatort ab. Um nur wenige Meter soll sich Holmes diesmal irren. Und tatsächlich wird der "Ripper" erstmals auch wirklich bei einer seiner Taten gestört, kann den so präzise geplanten Symbolmord an Elizabeth Stride nicht wie erhofft zu Ende bringen. Aber genau das "muss" er.

Mit ihrem bisherigen Wissen über den Mörder, den die Welt heute nur unter dem Namen "Jack the Ripper" kennt, versuchen Sherlock Holmes und Doktor Watson, dem Verbrecher erstmals eine Falle zu stellen. Alles passt - sowohl den neuerlichen Tatort als auch die exakte Mordnacht kann Holmes aus den bisherigen Taten präzise vorhersagen. Und doch kann der Mörder wieder knapp entkommen. Er hinterlässt erneut ein noch einmal grausameres Schlachtfeld auf seinem Opfer, eine schockierende Botschaft an die Öffentlichkeit.

Am zweiten Weihnachtstag 1887 liegt in einem Hauseingang in Whitechapel / London ein erstes Opfer jenes Mörders, der später einmal "Jack the Ripper" genannt werden wird: "Fairy Fay". Sie ist das "Schlüsselopfer" - das die verheerendste Mordserie der Geschichte auslösen wird. Kein Geringerer als der berühmte Detektiv Sherlock Holmes nimmt auf Bitten von Scotland Yard die Spur auf. Und findet erste Hinweise auf einen bisher unbekannten (aber verdammt realen) Symbol-Kosmos, der diesen primären Ripper-Mord mit allen folgenden verbinden wird.

Neville St. Clair ist verschwunden - Sherlock Holmes vermutet, dass er tot ist. Doch wie ist es zu erklären, dass seine Frau einen Brief von ihm erhält, nach dem vermutlichen Todeszeitpunkt? Ein klarer Fall für die Kombinationsgabe von Sherlock Holmes.

Der Mörder, der bald nur noch "Jack the Ripper" genannt werden wird, verfeinert seine Vorgehensweise. Das zeigt nach Opfer Nummer zwei - Emma Elizabeth Smith - auch sein drittes Opfer, Martha Tabram. Seinem Verfolger Sherlock Holmes gelingt es immer besser, neben dem "Modus Operandi", wie und wann der "Ripper" zuschlägt, auch die zahllosen Symbolismen in den Namen der Opfer und der gezielt ausgesuchten Tatorte zu deuten. Was aber nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen kann, dass die Morde des "Rippers" - wie auch der nächste an Mary Ann Nichols - zu immer grausameren Schauspielen werden.

Noch einen "Ripper"-Mord erwartet Sherlock Holmes. Doch der wird alles andere in den Schatten stellen! Allerdings ist "Jack the Ripper", wie alle Welt den so brutal wirkenden Mörder von Whitechapel längst nennt, durch die große Aufmerksamkeit der Öffentlichkeit zur Untätigkeit verdammt. Das ändert sich einen letzten grausamen Abend lang, als ganz London auf den unerwarteten Rücktritt des Polizeichefs Sir Charles Warren starrt. Die Chance für den "Ripper", sein Werk zu vollenden - weshalb er sich als sein achtes Opfer am Abend des 8. Novembers 1888 eine wahre "Mary Jane Kelly" sucht.

Es ist ein grausames Schlachtfeld, ein menschliches Inferno - das die Ermittler am vorerst letzten Tatort von "Jack the Ripper" vorfinden. Für Sherlock Holmes allerdings ist es das finale Puzzleteil, um den grausamen Mörder endlich dingfest zu machen. Doch es kommt im Showdown komplett anders, als der große Detektiv erwartet hat. Und es soll sich zeigen, dass die bis hierhin fiktionale Geschichte vom wahren Wesen "Jack the Rippers" in eine noch viel grausamere, noch viel abgründigere Realität führt.

Erstmals verlässt "Jack the Ripper" sein eigentliches Revier, Whitechapel. Und mordet ein zweites Mal in nur einer Nacht: Catherine Eddowes. Doch Sherlock Holmes ist ihm weiter dicht auf den Fersen, kann die Symbolspuren, die der "Ripper" an seinen Tatorten hinterlässt, immer präziser deuten.

Hoher Besuch in der Baker Street. Der 8. Herzog von Marlborough, George Spencer-Churchill persönlich, suchte Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson auf. Sein überaus kostbares und seltenes Fabergé-Ei wurde ihm gestohlen. Doch der Herzog weiß sogar, wer es ihm entwendet hat. Nämlich seine getrennt lebende Frau, die besagtes Ei in dem Schloss des Herzogs gefinkelt versteckt hat. Nun ist es an Holmes das wertvolle Ei wieder in die Hände seines Besitzers zurück zu bringen.
