Holiday Great

This book tells the tale of the fabled schooner, Rouse Simmons, the most famous Christmas story to emerge from the Great Lakes. This ship, loaded with Christmas trees for Chicago, sailed into the year's worst storm and disappeared in Lake Michigan on November 23, 1912, taking with it Captain Herman Schuenemann and about 15 others who were on board.

Nicklaase and Meena Elliffe are house parents at State Home for Children No. 13 in Norpol Province, but they are so much more than that. The Elliffe household shares the joyful endeavor of making toys for all the other children who live in children’s home cottages in their valley. The toys they make are distributed every year on Christmas Eve at the school all the children attend. When an ambitious new headmaster forbids the gifts to be given to the children, it begins an unforeseen chain of unfortunate events.
