Irish Supernatural

Released in our new Young Adult Classics format, Henry James's classic ghost story is a masterpiece of the supernatural. The tale is taken from the diary of a governess, who describes her mounting sense of paranoia at the relationship between her two wards and the ghostly figures that haunt the estate.

It is 1813 in Northern Spain. The crew of a British warship is attempting to make contact with the local resistance fighters who are battling the French. They send a brave crewman, known as Cuba Tom, to try to make contact with the local chief of the Guerrillos, but he fails to return. So a young naval officer, Edgar Byrne, sets off to try to trace him. The trail leads him to a strange inn which is run by two very sinister old women...

Lindsay is in her final year of high school, and is forced by her mother to take a babysitting job for one of her co-workers, Priscilla Thomson. Lindsay arrives at the home and finds out that the boy she is babysitting is named "Fang". The little boy talks ominously of "monsters outside", while waiting for the full moon to appear. Lindsay scoffs at the boy's ideas, until she hears howling outside the window.
