Surah al-Fatihah (Arabic: سُورَةُ الْفَاتِحَة ‎) is the first chapter (surah) of the Quran. Its seven verses (ayat) are a prayer for the guidance, lordship and mercy of God. This chapter has an essential role in Islamic prayer (salat).
