The years from 1935 to 1960 changed Alaska forever. World War II brought Japanese bombs and soldiers to the Aleutians, big defense dollars to build a road to the Lower 48, and Russian pilots to fly secret missions out of Fairbanks. The Cold War era saw more folks stream into Alaska. And along with them came a proliferation of TB, a civil rights battle for the Native people, and a struggle to win statehood.

Not every western American town had a public cemetery nicknamed "Boot Hill". It required a lot of violent deaths for a cemetery to be called "Boot Hill". The first Boot Hill cemeteries were in the cattle towns of Hays and Dodge City, Kansas. Many of the cemetery occupants were cowboys who "died with their boots on" in gunfights, beatings, stabbings, and hangings. There are other famous Boot Hills in Tombstone, Arizona and Deadwood, South Dakota. Boot Hill cemeteries began as public cemeteries. The first victim likely arrived at the cemetery with a fatal gunshot wound.

The amazing story behind the creation of the Great American Flag that was built by Anchor Industries in Evansville in 1980. March 22, 2015, will mark the 35th Anniversary of the dedication of the flag at the Evansville airport. 10,000 people attended the event.
