A CNA or a certified nursing assistant is not a nurse but a well-trained direct care staff member who works under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse (RN). In some states, a licensed practical nurse or a licensed vocational nurse (LPN/LVN) can also serve as a CNA supervisor. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, the CNA helps patients or residents with their direct health care needs, such as bathing, eating, toileting, medications, and other aspects of daily living. They may also assist with ongoing patient monitoring and documentation.
